Why Isn't My AC Cooling?

Most AC problems in Winnipeg come down to a handful of root causes. Knowing what's typical helps — but a diagnosis from a technician is still the right first step before throwing parts at it.

• Low refrigerant (Freon leak) — AC blows cool but not cold, or warm air only. Requires leak detection and recharge. Not a DIY fix — certified techs only.
• Frozen evaporator coil — Usually caused by restricted airflow (dirty filter) or low refrigerant. The unit runs but doesn't cool effectively.
• Condenser coil clogged — The outdoor unit can't reject heat if the coil is full of cottonwood, grass, or debris. Cleaning fixes this.
• Capacitor failure — The capacitor starts and runs the compressor and fan motors. When it fails, the unit may hum but not run. Common part, quick fix.
• Compressor failure — More expensive. We'll tell you honestly if the system age makes replacement smarter than repair.
• Thermostat issue — Sometimes the AC is fine and the thermostat is the problem. We check this.
